The tusk is a long-bodied fish of the cod family. It is small scaled, with a large mouth, small eyes and a barbel on its chin. The tusk has a single continuous dorsal fin, a long anal fin and a rounded tail. The colour varies within yellowish and brownish shades.
The most common size for tusk is 40-90cm but it can grow to about 110cm.
The tusk is found along the bottom in deep offshore waters on both sides of the Atlantic ocean.
