Fish Description

The rough dab is rather long, thin and wide. The head is medium, while the mouth is quite large, the jaws reaching back to the centre of the right eye. The eyes are large and the left one is placed slightly behind the other. The fin is typical flatfish, slightly tipped in the middle. The right side is reddish grey, sometimes dark grey but the left side is white. The habitat of the rough dab is down along the seabed in preferably clay or mud, at a depth of 10-400 m. The diet of the rough dab includes all kinds of sea bottom invertebrates, crustaceans, crabs and bristleworms, as well as snails, young fish and other small fry.
