Fish Description

The catfish has a large head and very strong teeth and a strong jaw. Its single dorsal fin covers almost the entirety of its back. Its scale is small and its skin is very thick. Its colour ranges from blue grey to shades of green and the catfish commonly sports 10-12 dark stripes on each flank. The abdominal area is of a slightly lighter tone. The catfish is encountered in depths ranging from 10 – 300 meters. It is a common demersal fish, most commonly encountered in a sanded and silted seabed. The catfish feeds predominantly on several kinds of seabed animals: shellfish, crabs and snails, but it also feeds on small fish, such as capelin etc.
